The Casa Foresta Suites occupy the main hotel block at Avhyay — a building of twenty-four rooms that required comprehensive retrofitting to bring its services, comfort systems, and spatial character up to contemporary luxury standards, while preserving the essential quality of the original 1985 design: its close relationship with the Tungareshwar Forest that surrounds it on three sides.

The retrofit began with the systems: HVAC, electrical, and plumbing were entirely replaced, not merely repaired, with upgrades designed for energy efficiency and long-term reliability. This invisible infrastructure work is the foundation on which every visible design decision rests — a reminder that the glamour of hospitality design depends entirely on the unglamorous competence of building services. Bricolage Bombay coordinated this technical upgrade with the same rigour brought to the visual and spatial design, because a beautifully detailed room with unreliable air conditioning is a design failure.

The interior design of the Casa Foresta Suites follows the material language established across the Avhyay campus: natural stone floors, mud plaster walls, raw concrete accents, and timber joinery. Headboards in the main bedroom are cast in raw concrete with wooden inner shutters — a detail that gives each room a strong, architectural character while requiring minimal ongoing maintenance. The deliberate roughness of the concrete is not austerity but honesty: these rooms are not hiding behind veneer or gloss. They are, in the best sense, exactly what they appear to be.

The rooms are divided between two levels: ground-floor rooms with direct access to private pools set within small gardens; first-floor rooms with generous decks overlooking the Tungareshwar Forest canopy. Both typologies offer an immediate, unmediated connection to the natural landscape — one through the tactile immediacy of water and garden, the other through the visual grandeur of a forest viewed from above. Indoor swings installed in several rooms add a playful, nostalgic element that has proved enormously popular with guests, connecting the contemporary design to the cultural memory of the Indian verandah.

The Casa Foresta Suites are Bricolage Bombay’s argument, made in twenty-four rooms, that sustainable luxury is not a contradiction. That using natural materials, working with the existing structure, avoiding artificial finishes, and connecting guests to the natural landscape does not mean sacrificing comfort or beauty. On the contrary: it means designing for the specific place, the specific forest, the specific light of this edge of Maharashtra — and producing something that could exist nowhere else. That specificity is the deepest form of luxury.
